K9 Jag was a beloved member of the community. He was K9-1 the only K9 at the Twin Rivers Police Department. Jag and his partner were on duty attending their Annual POST Certifications Wednesday when Jag was accidentally struck by a civilian vehicle and mortally wounded. Valiant attempts were made to save him, but sadly he passed away. Jag was a wonderful ambassador for Foothills K9 Association, for his department and for school K9s. It was in large part because of the success of K9 Jag and the K9 program in the Twin Rivers Unified School District that another school police department in Southern California added a K9 program. Jag was hard hitting enough to bring home 11 awards from Western States Police Canine Association sanctioned trials including an “Agitator’s Choice Award” and gentle enough that he received an excellence award from the After School Program presented at the State Capitol. Once after the schools went on lockdown due to an armed suspect in the area only Jag’s search calmed students enough to go back to studying. If Jag said the bad guy was gone, he was! We are grateful to all who have shown their love to Jag, his family, his department & his students. Thank you, Rose Borisow GraFX for this loving tribute to the little powerhouse. (JB)
